Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently shocked the country, not only with her resignation from Congress but also with a public apology for the inflammatory rhetoric for which she has become so well known.
But in a recent interview with Lesley Stahl for 60 Minutes, Greene didn’t seem fully ready to put down the knives.

Greene called out the country’s “toxic political culture,” and Stahl responded by reminding Greene that she has long been a part of it.
Greene responded defensively. “Lesley, you’ve contributed to it as well… You’re accusatory,” Greene said.

Stahl pushed back, asking Greene to “respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people, yelling at people,” but Greene interrupted, declaring, “I’d like you to respond for that.”
Stahl said she doesn’t insult people, but Greene doubled down, saying, “You do in the way you question. You’re accusing me right now.”
Greene’s response felt like a departure from her November statement on CNN, where she said, “I would like to say humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country.”
“I think America needs to come together and end all the toxic, dangerous rhetoric and divide,” she added, “and I’m leading the way with my own example. I hope President Trump can do the same.”
Many praised her for taking these steps, while others expressed caution about readily accepting her radical, quite sudden transformation as real.
Despite the discrepancy in her response to perpetuating toxicity, Greene remained steadfast on 60 Minutes in her anger at the president. The Georgia lawmaker has been breaking from both Trump and the broader Republican party for months, despite having previously remained unflinchingly loyal to both throughout her tenure in Congress.
Disagreement over the Epstein Files officially broke the alliance between Trump and Greene. Greene has been a staunch supporter of releasing everything and refused to give in to Republican pressure to remove her name from the House discharge petition to force a vote on the files’ release.
