January 13 2026, 08:15 The sporty queers are well and truly having a moment, and one that doesn’t look set to end any time soon. This year will see the arrival of Slo Pitch, a mockumentary about a sapphic softball team, produced by Elliot Page’s company PageBoy Productions.
Bodybuilding? Supremely sapphic, thanks to Kristen Stewart’s bloody crime drama Love Lies Bleeding. Cheerleading? Gay as hell, as confirmed by Devery Jacobs’ criminally underrated 2024 movie Backspot. Tennis? At least a little bisexual, said Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Feist with Challengers. Boxing? Historically queer! Just ask Christy Martin, the inspo for Sydney Sweeney’s Christy. Ice Hockey? Not just gay, but horny with it too, according to Heated Rivalry.
The abundance of gloriously gay sports series and movies in recent years has been a tonic for the queer community, which has historically, and to this day, been alienated by and ousted from sports scenes. If the unprecedented, IMDb-topping success of Heated Rivalry has proven anything, it’s that the community likes its representation to be sweaty and smutty, with a little competitive edge.
Or, as the rise of queer college comedies like Overcompensating and Bottoms have proven, pretty damn funny, too. To combine queer sports with queer comedy is a sure-fire winner. Enter Slo Pitch, a brand new, Canadian mockumentary series about a lesbian soft ball team.
Here’s everything we know about Slo Pitch so far.
Slo Pitch is from the network that gave us Heated Rivalry
Hot on the skates of the success of Heated Rivalry, its original TV network Crave has another queer sports show on the horizon. Slo Pitch was originally announced back in early October, weeks before Heated Rivalry found proper viral, international success, but evidently the network has faith in the queer sports genre.

In an Instagram post, the network promised that the show would be coming to screens at some point in 2026. Exactly when remains a mystery, but it’s something to get us through the gloomy winter regardless.
It’s about a queer softball team, and based on a hit web series
Slo Pitch is a “10-episode mockumentary” which “follows The Public Lass Brovaries, a queer underdog slo pitch softball team, led by their determined coach”.
A longer, oh-so-enticing synopsis, shared back in October, revealed that Slo Pitch will feature The Public Lass Brovaries as “six-time league losers”. The team’s coach Joanne will be turning its fate around, even though has “just been brutally dumped by her girlfriend and co-founder of the team”.
The “loveable, chaotic” team are then left to navigate “a season of strikeouts, petty rivalries, conservative-politician sponsors, and sexy carwash fundraisers gone wrong,” while Joanne’s ex joins a rival team.
“It’s time to win the breakup, get the gang back together, and maybe even find new love over beers in the dugout,” the synopsis rounds off.
Despite appearing as one of the new TV additions to the recent slate of queer sports shows, Slo Pitch actually led the pack. It started out as an eponymous web series for LGBTQ+ streaming service OutTV, created by J Stevens, Gwenlyn Cumyn, and Karen Knox.
The softball series featured a cast and crew made exclusively of women and non-binary people, with the vast majority identifying as LGBTQ+. The web series was originally picked up by US cable TV show IFC, and ran for two seasons between 2020 and 2022.
It was nominated for multiple awards during its run, including a Best Performance nod for actor Kirsten Rasmussen at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Elliot Page is involved in the TV series
Slo Pitch for Crave is set to be produced by Shaftesbury, BOSS & CO, and Elliot Page’s production company, PageBoy Productions. The latter was set up by Page the year after he came out as a trans man, and aims to “champion underrepresented voices and prove that telling those stories is not only socially responsible, but financially viable”.

Who is starring in Slo Pitch?
As reported back in October by Deadline, Slo Pitch has found its cast. Fraiser star Jess Salgueiro will play coach Joanne, with Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire also appearing in a leading role.
Knox and Cumyn will also star in the series (as well as producing and writing it) alongside Emma Hunter, Chelsea Muirhead, Lane Webber, Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah and Amanda Cordner in as-yet undisclosed roles.
Ayami Sato, who became the first female player to play professional baseball in Canada in 2024, will also make a guest appearance.
J Stevens is an executive producer and director of the TV series.
When will Slo Pitch be released?
As of right now, a release date for Slo Pitch is being kept under wraps. However, there’s some promising news: in addition to Crave confirming it will be released in 2026, filming on the series is rumoured to have wrapped up recently, which means it might be on its way sooner rather than later.
