A TikToker who goes by Coach Jackie J online is getting attention for pointing out the hypocrisy of people protesting against trans rights at the Supreme Court yesterday.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in two cases concerning bans on trans people playing sports. Protestors marched in front of the Court, representing both sides of the case, and many people protested in favor of the bans, with signs admonishing onlookers to “Protect women’s sports.”

One major criticism that pro-LGBTQ+ advocates have had since these bans started sweeping the nation 5 years ago was that most of the proponents of such bans don’t actually care about women’s sports except when they can use them as a cudgel to promote anti-trans policies. So Coach Jackie J came up with a really tough challenge for the protestors who claimed to be defending women’s sports: Name five current pro women athletes.

Most of the protestors struggled to name even one. One person mentioned “the Williams sisters who play tennis,” even though Serena Williams retired years ago, and it’s not clear that the person knew Serena’s and Venus’ first names. Another protestor brought up Riley Gaines, the University of Kentucky swimmer who tied for fifth place with a trans woman and who has built a career as a pundit on that experience, but not a career as an athlete.
