34-year-old Shibritney Colbert has been arrested and charged after verbally attacking a gay man and then abusing him with his own cart in a Virginia grocery store.

According to a statement from the Alexandria Police Department (APD), Colbert “pushed the victim and threw groceries while making derogatory statements. A 911 call was placed reporting a fight inside the store, and Alexandria Police officers responded immediately. As officers attempted to detain the suspect in the parking lot, she fled in her vehicle.”

Colbert has since been charged with felony eluding, assault and battery, destruction of property, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police also say they believe she targeted the victim due to his sexual orientation, which is clear in the comments she hurled at him in the viral TikTok video of the incident. The case is currently “being evaluated” for the potential of adding hate crime charges, police said.

Colbert will be the first suspect investigated using APD’s new hate crime and bias-incident policy, announced this month and developed over the past year in collaboration with human and civil rights organizations, faith leaders, and community advocates.

“APD encourages anyone who experiences or witnesses bias-motivated behavior to report it immediately,” the department urges. “Every report is taken seriously and investigated with care and professionalism.”

Colbert’s confrontation with the gay victim – fitness entrepreneur Deonteiy – took place on Christmas Day. “Just got hate-crimed in the grocery store. TikTok do your thing,” Deonteiy posted with video of the ugly encounter.

Video shows him in the cereal aisle as the foul-mouthed perpetrator expresses an issue with his look.

“Get that s**t outta my muthaf**kin’ face,” the woman yells while tossing the Christmas shopper’s cart.

“I don’t even know you,” he replies.

“Boy get outta here with your gay a*s!”

The confrontation continued back and forth down the aisle for more than a minute, with the attacker only growing more agitated.

“B**ch, get outta here!” she says.

“Why are you still following me?” he asks.

Things finally got physical when the attacker pushed up on him — and he pushed back.

A few days after the incident, Deonteiy wrote on social media that it “was a very traumatic experience.”

“For those wondering why I chose to record instead of immediately calling the police or reacting, it was because the situation could have easily been misrepresented and turned into a narrative that portrayed me as the perpetrator,” he said. “I needed evidence to protect myself. Had I immediately reacted, the conversation would be very different.”
