Even though the New England Patriots came up short at last weekend’s Super Bowl, Patriots cheerleader Jeremy Greer scored big for the home team.
Reports LGBTQ Nation:
He’s been called one of the most viral cheerleaders in the NFL, and on Sunday, Jeremy Greer [went] to the Super Bowl.
As LGBTQ Nation sibling site OutSports reported last month, the 26-year-old out New England Patriots cheerleader made a major splash with his victory dance following the team’s 16-3 playoffs win over the Los Angeles Chargers on January 10.
Thanks in part to the boost in viewership the NFL playoffs bring, video of Greer performing on the sideline quickly went viral, racking up millions of views on social media and thrusting the only male cheerleader on the Patriots squad into the spotlight.
Now, with the Patriots [having faced off] against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX [last] Sunday, Greer, who uses he/they pronouns, [performed] for his biggest audience yet.
Last month, Greer told NBC 10 Boston that he never thought becoming an NFL cheerleader was possible growing up in Texas. But, Greer told the station, he was inspired by seeing Driss Dallahi perform. Dallahi and Steven Sonntag were the first men to earn a spot on the Patriots’ cheerleading squad in 2019.
“I want to be that trailblazer that Driss was for me,” Geer told NBC 10. “I want to be that inspiration that Driss was for me for someone.”
Greer is certainly not the first male cheerleader to perform at the Super Bowl. Los Angeles Rams cheerleaders Quinton Peron and Napoleon Jinnies blazed that particular trail in 2019, the same year Dallahi and Sonntag joined the Patriots squad. Others have followed, including Jonathan Romero of the San Francisco 49ers and James Christian Legette for the Philadelphia Eagles. Like Greer and Dallahi, Sonntag, Peron, Jinnies, Romero, and Legette are all openly gay.
