California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) mocked Donald Trump after a Wall Street Journal report showing that record numbers of Americans are moving overseas.

“WOW. Americans are leaving the USA in record numbers!” wrote Newsom’s Press Office account, which has become a viral sensation for mocking the president. “Under Trump, the American Dream is DEAD!”

The Journal reported that for the first time definitively since the Great Depression, more people moved out of the country than into it in 2025.

The reasons for this are plentiful and may not be solely due to Trump. The writers explained, “Some commentators have labeled this wave of American emigrants the ‘Donald Dash’ since numbers have spiked under President Trump’s second term. But the phenomenon has been building for years – fed by the rise of remote work, mounting living costs and an appetite for foreign lifestyles that feel within reach, especially in Europe.”

But that didn’t stop Newsom from using the report as another opportunity to get under the president’s skin, which Trump has repeatedly shown is not all that difficult.
