In Colorado, an extreme right-wing congressional candidate has earned an op-ed from his aunt — begging Coloradans not to vote for him.
“As a member of the LGBTQ community, I’m terrified of what his agenda could do to my rights.”

Lauren Boebert mocked for repeating Donald Trump’s “They’re eating the dogs” line
Even some on the right were criticizing Trump for bringing this up at the debate, but Boebert supported him.
Jennifer Chavez is aunt to Colorado Republican congressional candidate Gabe Evans, a right-wing former police lieutenant who currently serves in the Colorado state House of Representatives representing a largely rural area north of Denver. He’s facing incumbent Democrat Yadira Caraveo in the 2024 election for Colorado’s Eighth Congressional District — right next door to Colorado’s Fourth, the district that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) moved to in order to escape the Democratic challenger who almost beat her in 2022.

The two are close allies, according to Evan’s queer aunt.
Evans “believes in, and has called for, banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest,” she writes. “He has threatened the fabric of our democracy by questioning the results of a free and fair election, joining extremists like Lauren Boebert.”
And, Chavez says, he “believes in, and has called for, banning gay marriage; he even called gay marriage ‘bestiality.'”
Chavez says Evans’ claim that he’s moderated his views over time — as he works to win over suburban voters outside Denver — is false.
“The truth is, I’ve seen firsthand that they haven’t. He has long held the deeply rooted belief that gay marriage is wrong and unacceptable.”
Evans is also actively working to implement Project 2025, introducing a resolution in the Colorado state Legislature that “word-for-word copied their proposals and would put their goal of overturning the Constitution into place.”
“Project 2025 would strip away our rights and freedoms by monitoring women’s pregnancies, restricting access to birth control, and moving us toward a national abortion ban. It would hurt our pocketbooks, education, and access to health care.”
In a debate with his Congressional opponent last week, Evans called for the repeal of Obamacare.
“I believe in freedom, rights, fairness, and opportunity,” Chavez wrote. “I believe in the right to love who you want to love. The right to make your own health care decisions, especially when it comes to starting a family. I believe in democracy and protecting our free and fair elections.
“My nephew doesn’t share these beliefs. He holds an extreme, far-right ideology that is, simply put, scary.”
