Furious anti-woke gamers are losing it that the development team for The Elder Scrolls VI, features, gasp, women with dyed hair, depsite the fact they have worked there for decades.

Development studio and creators of The Elder Scrolls series, Bethesda Studios, were once again branded “woke” by right-wing gamers enraged that it employs women.

A viral post on X/Twitter on Wednesday (28 May) shared screenshots of three senior Bethesda employees, all women, during respective interviews, with the poster writing: “[The Elder Scrolls] bros, I’d start getting worried.”

The post, which has six million views at the time of reporting, was met with outrage among gamers who seemingly couldn’t believe that a gaming studio with over 450 employees might have women employed there.

In actuality, all three of the senior staff members targeted by the post have worked at the studio for decades, including during the development of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Both games in the series are commonly cited by right-wing, anti-woke groups as examples of “apolitical” games made before the industry, they argue, went “woke” by diversifying video game characters and highlight issues such as feminism and LGBTQ+ rights.

The screenshots were lifted from the 22 April announcement livestream of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, in which all three developers, who worked on the original title, discuss their personal connection with the game.

The infamous website “DEI Watchdog,” which brands how “woke” video games are, gives both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion an “apolitical” rating of 4 out of 5 stars, while their respective “woke” rating is just 1/5. All three developers worked on both of these games.

Christiane Meister, senior character artist at Bethesda and one of the women targeted by the post, has worked at the studio for over 26 years and has worked on Bethesda projects as far back as 2002 with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

She said during the livestream that she had the “warm fuzzies” working on the Oblivion remaster with many people whom she had worked with to create the original game.

Angela Browder, Bethesda’s production and studio director, was also targeted by the post, despite the fact she has worked with the studio for almost two decades. She worked as a producer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, and worked with quality assurance on Oblivion.

Finally, Senior Environment Artist, Megan Sawyer, has spent 21 years working to create the world of Tamriel, including the town of Cheydinhal and the interiors of the Imperial City in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. She also created world art for Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Commenting on the Oblivion remaster, Sawyer said revisiting the world she helped create felt “new and fun,” adding: “You’re going back to a world you’ve been to before, but it’s better somehow.”
