
There isn’t a guide for being a mom, and that is even more true if you’re queer. Society’s obsession with the traditional nuclear family leads to fewer available resources that are unique to same-sex couples or LGBTQ+ family dynamics.
Nevertheless, those resources do exist. There are many communities out there focused on uplifting queer moms in navigating parenthood from a unique lense. Here are 5 groups and resources that could make the experience of queer motherhood feel a little smoother.

This podcast is all about what it’s like to be an LGBTQ+ parent in a society where it isn’t as normalized. The podcast is hosted by Jaimie Kelton, an actress with a wife and two children. Kelton’s mission is to normalize and elevate queer parents and their families and remind people that they are like any other parent.
Her podcast features weekly guests joining in to discuss their experiences as parents and how they deal with finding their place in a world that wasn’t built with them in mind. Many praise the show for helping LGBTQ+ folks discover community and learn more about how to interpret their role as a parent.
Rainbow Families

Rainbow Families is an LGBTQ+ non-profit organization that has been helping LGBTQ+ parents since 1970. The organization provides a wide range of services, including support groups, educational programs, and social events. The main focus of Rainbow Families is to foster community and advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+ parents.
The group also offers resources for navigating medical and legal issues, as well as financial assistance.
Mombian

Mombian is a blog website for lesbian moms and other LGBTQ+ parents. It covers a wide range of topics and includes parenting resources, legal information, and essays from other queer moms. The website was founded by Dana Rudolph in 2005 after she noted a lack of resources with practical news for LGBTQ+ parents.
xHood

This online community for Black queer women aknowledges the intersectional discrimination they face can not be ignored. Historically, people of color in the LGBTQ+ community have faced some of the worst forms of discrimination. Some of the services provided by xHood include financial assistance as well as connections to resources for healthcare and adoption.
Gay Moms Club

Self-described as a “first-of-its-kind lifestyle and community marketplace just for LGBTQIA+ moms and allies,” Gay Moms Club functions similarly to an online forum or social media website, with a community page containing a chatroom and discussion board that connects lesbian moms by topic and location. Like any other social media website, you can browse users based on interests and hobbies and even match for one-on-one meetups
