Conservative Christians freak out over Kroger being a good place for LGBTQ+ people to work
June 13 2025, 08:15

The perpetually outraged anti-LGBTQ+ organization One Million Moms (OMM) has condemned Kroger supermarkets for allegedly “pushing” its “woke and liberal agenda” onto “families and conservative shoppers” by offering Pride-related merchandise and having LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace policies.

In a new petition urging Kroger to “stay neutral in the culture war,” OMM — which only has 108,000 social media followers on Facebook and X — notes that Kroger has been honored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” because of the company’s perfect score on the HRC’s 2025 Corporate Equality Index, a ranking of companies’ LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace policies.

“The company is also promoting and celebrating gay pride month by displaying and selling items and products supporting the LGBTQ agenda and gay pride month for all shoppers to see during the month of June,” OMM writes. “Families are bombarded with this woke agenda immediately when entering Kroger grocery stores.”

OMM ends its plea by referencing two Bible verses: Ezekiel 13:10-12, which says God will destroy places that lead people astray, and Matthew 18:6, which says it’s better for a person to be drowned in the sea with a large millstone tied around their neck than to cause child Christians to stray.

OMM’s petition states, “I disagree with the woke and liberal agenda Kroger is pushing on families and conservative shoppers in your grocery stores. It is irresponsible to display and sell LGBTQ items and products supporting and celebrating gay pride that only appeal to a small percentage of shoppers while offending the majority. My family and I are not buying what you are selling and will stay far away from your stores. You will not have my support or business unless you remain neutral in the culture war.”

They provided no proof that a “majority” of people are offended by Pride merchandise. A recent survey found that most Americans aren’t bothered by stores selling Pride merchandise.

It’s also not clear what Pride merchandise OMM is referring to. Kroger’s website does not have a section devoted to Pride merchandise.

LGBTQ Nation has reached out to Kroger for comment. This article will be updated if they respond.

OMM, which is an offshoot of the anti-LGBTQ+ American Family Association, has a habit of throwing a fit anytime any company anywhere publicly acknowledges the existence of queer people.

Their past moral outrage has been directed at Parents magazine for featuring a same-sex couple, an anti-smoking ad that mentioned erectile dysfunctionHighlights magazine for acknowledging gay people, Scholastic books for featuring LGBTQ-inclusive children’s books, the Roseanne reboot for featuring a non-binary child, a Disney cartoon series for its brief scene of two men kissing, a Zales jewelry commercial for featuring a lesbian couple, the fairy tale drama series Once Upon a Time for showing a lesbian kiss, a 30-second TV ad for featuring an affectionate male same-sex couple, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for featuring trans and nonbinary performers, Indeed for showing a male couple, and an eHarmony ad for showing lesbians doing laundry.

None of these seems, by OMM’s standards, particularly appropriate for young children and families, no matter the month.
