A woman was arrested for wearing a costume shaped like human genitals at a No Kings rally this past Saturday, and the incident was caught on video.
Jeana Renea Gamble, 61, of Fairhope, Alabama, wore a large inflatable costume that led to complaints from onlookers. She also held a sign that read “No d**k-tator” and wore an American flag.

Gamble was arrested and now faces charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
“She resisted arrest and was wearing an outfit that is not appropriate in public,” City Council President Jack Burrell told reporters on Monday, according to AL.com. The arrest raises First Amendment questions, but Burrell said that he believes the costume would be considered obscene. “We want to make sure we don’t violate someone’s constitutional rights, and I hope the police have enough evidence that they stand behind the charges.”
But civil liberties attorneys disagreed.
“This is the kind of arrest that normally should result in the disciplinary action in those involved [sic] and a pledge to retrain the Police Department for violating someone’s First Amendment rights,” said Adam Steinbaugh of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.
“This is political speech, and it certainly doesn’t meet the definition of obscenity,” said University of Louisville law professor Russell Weaver.
