Karoline Leavitt gives “worst spin possible” on allegations White House is coercing lawmaker

As the House gets closer to a vote on the release of the sealed government files on convicted and deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, multiple sources told NBC News that the White House has been pressuring Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) to remove her name from a House petition seeking to force a vote on the issue.

The outlet said the meeting took place with “top White House and Justice Department officials” in the hours before House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will finally swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ). Grijalva has said she will add her name to the petition and become the final House member needed to force a vote.

When a reporter asked Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt why White House officials are doing this, given the administration’s claim to care about transparency, Leavitt gave a nonsensical response, saying there is nothing more transparent than an administration that speaks with lawmakers.

She called it a “defining factor of transparency” that the administration is “willing to sit down with members of Congress and address their concerns.” She said she would not provide information about what actually took place in the conversations.
