November 14 2025, 08:15 A new poll has revealed which political figures US citizens think have the lowest IQ, and the person at the bottom of the pile is a prominent anti-LGBTQ+ Republican.
The poll, published by YouGov last week (7 November), asked over 2,280 US adults to gauge how well they thought 38 Democratic and Republican political figures would score on an IQ test.
Researchers then collated answers between those who said each politician was either above average intelligence or below average intelligence. Responses who answered “about average” or “not sure” were not factored.
It found that Americans predominantly think that anti-LGBTQ+ Georgia Republican and conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene is the least intelligent prominent political figure in the US, with 28 per cent saying they believed her to be below average intelligence compared to 15 per cent who answered above average.

As recorded by GLAAD, Marjorie Taylor Greene has, amongst many other things, made the baseless and false accusation that Rep. Sarah McBride, who is transgender, is a “groomer” and “child predator” in a post on X. Greene also deadnamed McBride in the same post. She also appeared in an anti-transgender rap video for the song “MTG” while promoting anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and conspiracy theories.
Donald Trump ranked fifth among political figures considered to be the least intelligent, with 35 per cent saying they believe him to be above average intelligence. Respondents were just 3 per cent more likely to call him unintelligent, while they were 13 per cent more likely to call Greene unintelligent.
Also among the bottom ranks was former US president Joe Biden, with 34 per cent saying he is unintelligent compared to 24 per cent – a net difference of -10 per cent.
Others include California Democrat Maxine Waters (16 per cent above average vs 24 per cent below average), Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem (17 per cent above vs 24 per cent below), and Republican senator Susan Collins (12 per cent above vs 13 per cent below)
Majority of Americans still think Elon Musk is intelligent, despite everything
Rather disappointingly, the political figure considered by most Americans to be above average IQ is… Elon Musk.
A whopping 60 per cent of respondents said Musk, who once compared himself to the Buddha and said the NHS had been infected by the ‘woke mind virus’, was above average intelligence compared to 14 per cent who said he is below average IQ. US adults were 46 per cent more likely to say he has an above average IQ.
Below Elon Musk, who once lied about being good at video games, is Barack Obama, with 55 per cent saying they consider him above average IQ vs 12 per cent that said the opposite.

Others included Republican political scientist Condoleezza Rice (43 per cent above vs 8 per cent below), Ben Carson (37 per cent above vs 12 per cent below), and Hilary Clinton (42 per cent above vs 19 per cent below).
Taking America’s thoughts on IQ tests more generally, around two-thirds (65 per cent) of survey respondents said they think it’s a good way to test someone’s intelligence.
While 42 per cent of Americans had taken an IQ test, 45 per cent considered themselves above average intelligence, while just 5 per cent said below.
Men were far more likely to consider themselves above average intelligence than women, with 52 per cent of male respondents saying they were smart versus 39 per cent of women who answered similarly.
