People are “transvestigating” Charlie Kirk and his recent widow Erika, with online posts circulating that claim both members of the former couple were, and are, trans.
The term transvestigating – a mash-up of trans and investigating – refers to conspiracy theories that falsely claim individuals, typically women, are transgender and are hiding their “true” gender identity, Star Observer reports.
Conspiracy theories around Erika Kirk began shortly after her husband was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on 10 September.
Users across social media began claiming that her features, including her “long torso”, “low set ears” and thigh gap mean she is trans.

In a post on Facebook group “Transvestigation Disclosure NOW”, which has more than 53,000 members, one person pointed out Erika’s features and intentionally misgendered her, claiming “that is a man”.
“Erik(a) kirk, straight collar bones, his legs aren’t normal female anatomy either, jaw line is male, smaller hips then shoulders, thigh gap, that is a man. as most pageant winners are,” they wrote.
Another social media user created a video in which they questioned why they were unable to find pregnancy photos of Erika, who they claimed had “little boy hips”.
Even following his death, people are suggesting that Charlie also may have been trans, with a post on Transvestigation Disclosure NOW claiming that Kirk was “a dashing lady”.
“Perfect example of the Adam’s Apple implant. It’s like little pea stuck in the throat. Another victim of a very squishy face, female hands, female skull, female set eyes, no brow ridge, and of course female Gait/Q Angle walking on a tightrope,” the post claims.
It goes without saying, but Charlie Kirk was cisgender, not trans. And Erika Kirk is also cisgender. What’s more, Charlie Kirk was known for his extreme anti-LGBTQ+ views, including calling trans people a “throbbing middle finger to God”.
They’re not the only public figures to face this kind of scrutiny. Last year, right-wingers began transvestigating Melania Trump after she appeared to express support for access to abortion.
Tranvestigating usually appears on platforms such as X and YouTube, with proponents claiming that the likes of Taylor Swift, Madonna, Serena Williams, Brigitte Macron and Michelle Obama are transgender because they display vaguely defined, purportedly male characteristics – a belief rooted in misogyny, transphobia, and, sometimes, racism.
Right-wing political commentator Candace Owens has claimed that even Donald Trump urged her to stop calling Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte trans.
