Keith Urban performs Chappell Roan queer anthem for Trump at Mar-a-Lago: ‘Yikes’
November 19 2025, 08:15

When Chappell Roan said she’d heard of “a special place/where boys and girls can all be queens every single day”, we never imagined it was anywhere with Donald Trump in the same room.

But that is just what has happened.

On Saturday (15 November), Australian country singer Keith Urban covered the lesbian star’s song about queer acceptance and euphoria, “Pink Pony Club”, at an event attended by the president and some of his wealthy pals at his resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Clips shared on Instagram by real estate agent Tali Israel, under the username @tali.florida, show Trump listening as Urban, the ex-husband of actress Nicole Kidman, sang the track for the guests.

“President Trump at Anthony Pratt (who just so generously pledged five billion dollars toward American manufacturing projects) holiday party at Mar-a-Lago. Great food, lots of French fries, amazing people and great entertainment by Keith Urban,” the post read.

Australian businessman Pratt is the executive chairman of Visy Asia-Pacific, a packaging and recycling business, and is worth an estimated $7.7 billion (£58.6 billion), according to Forbes.

He donated millions to Trump’s re-election campaign.

Since its release in 2020, “Pink Pony Club” has become a queer anthem, been streamed almost one billion times on Spotify and helped catapult Roan to global stardom.

The song was inspired by her visit to famous queer bar The Abbey, in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. She told The Daily Shuffle that she had been “completely changed by the entire experience”, adding: “I was enthralled by the go-go dancers and thought about how amazing it would be to be one. So, I wrote a song about it.

The visit made her realise she could “truly be any way I wanted to be, and no one would bat an eye”, she later told Headliner magazine. “It was so different from home, where I always had such a hard time being myself and felt like I’d be judged for being different or being creative.

“I felt overwhelmed with complete love and acceptance, and from then on I started writing songs as the real me.”

Many social media users could not help but spot the irony in Urban performing a queer anthem for Trump and his staunch right-wing supporters.

“Yikes,” one person wrote on Instagram. Another said, clearly sarcastically: “An immigrant covering a song by a queer artist, I love how progressive and accepting the Republican Party has become.”
