Their Straight Ally Pride flag just got stolen, but their dog still supports Pride
June 20 2024, 08:15

Are there gay dogs?

This mixed breed pup makes a compelling case, at least when it comes to their lighting choices.

Or they’re an ally, same as companion Ruby Russoniello-Damaskos, who, like her gold and brown-eyed beauty, has a mixed heritage like pretty much everyone else on the planet.

“I am Aaniiih/Nakoda/Italian,” she tells LGBTQ Nation. “My husband is Tlingit/Cherokee/Filipino. We have three mixed-breed dogs and a cat. We practice acceptance and lifelong learning throughout our lives.”

When it comes to gay dogs, Russoniello-Damaskos might have learned that studies demonstrate homosexual behavior in lots of species. In these pages, we’ve reported on lesbian seagulls, male lions mating, gay swans parenting, a lady bunny couple, a lesbian chicken couple (!), and the London Zoo’s gay penguins celebrating Pride.

It was Russoniello-Damaskos’s celebration of Pride that “got our Straight Ally Flag torn and removed from our property twice,” she says. Despite that, “we will continue to display our alliance.”

As for the handsome beast at the end of the rainbow — who to this dog lover looks like an Australian shepherd met a border collie one enchanted evening — we agree with their lucky housemate: “This photo demonstrates Love, Pride, and Alliance.”

Pride in Pictures is LGBTQ Nation’s annual series celebrating Pride across the country. We asked our readers to send in their pictures and stories of Pride and we got so many rainbows. Keep an eye out for more heartwarming stories to get you ready for Pride Month 2024.
