Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) considers herself a MAGA patriot. In fact, in observance of the country’s July 4th Independence Day, she tried making a social media post listing out the men who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 — the only problem: Most of the men she listed didn’t actually sign that document.
In a July 5 post on X, Greene wrote, “The average age of the signers of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 was 44 years old, but more than a dozen were 35 or younger.” She then listed the names of ages of eight famous American founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and John Hancock (who both signed the document) as well as six men who didn’t, including James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, James Monroe, Aaron Burr, Paul Revere, and George Washington.

The watchdog site Patriot Takes wrote, “Marjorie Taylor Greene works minutes away from the nation’s founding documents.” Others mocked her by passing off other bits of incorrect history as “facts,” saying she should take a civics class, or challenge her intellect by debating a bag of hammers.
