Ignacio “Nacho” Lago is being celebrated across Argentina after a resurfaced interview featuring a heartfelt message from his boyfriend went viral.
The 23-year-old winger, who plays football for Club Atlético Colón, was visibly moved during a July 2025 clip on weekly show Sangre y Luto, a co-production between AIRE de Santa Fe and Colón, which shows him reacting to a surprise video from his partner expressing love and support for Lago.
While Lago has not formally labelled the moment as coming out, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans, journalists, and politicians praising his openness in a sport where openly gay players remain extremely rare.
