The National LGBTQ Task Force just closed out the Winter Party, its signature circuit party event in Miami, South Florida. The event is one of the longest-standing party and philanthropy events in the nation, hosting attendees from over 35 countries.

The proceeds from this year’s event, which marked the party’s 34th anniversary, will be used to fund grants and LGBTQ+-aligned organizations in the state and elsewhere in the nation. The event ran from February 26 to March 2. The Task Force has produced the event since 2004 and has been committed to continually returning its proceeds to the community.

This LGBTQ+ leader wants the movement to be built on 3 pillars. Here’s what they are.

Since 2005, the National Task Force has donated nearly $4 million to organizations, such as the LGBTQ+ Equity Fund, in conjunction with the Our Fund Foundation. Those proceeds have supported nearly 80 pro-LGBTQ+ organizations in the South Florida community.

The party’s general aesthetic hails from mid-1990s circuit party culture. Circuit parties emerged from disco and after-hours culture that proliferated in the U.S. and around the world since the 1960s. Such parties took a hit during the 1980s and 1990s AIDS crisis, but the communal stress relief and fundraising they fostered became all the more important during that time.

The event holds true to the vision laid out at Task Force’s Creating Change 2026 event by its Executive Director Kierra Johnson.

“What will sustain us is what always has – people in place, grounded in care, committed to shared power and willing to struggle together with integrity,” she said. Johnson called the event a celebration of “love, joy, and generosity” as the LGBTQ+ community continues its advocacy work.
