March 04 2026, 08:15

Pop star Kesha has hit out at the White House for using her 2011 song “Blow” to make “light of war”.

The 39-year-old “BOY CRAZY” hitmaker’s track was used in a clip that President Donald Trump’s White House’s TikTok account.

The video, posted 10 February, sees a fighter jet shooting a missile at a naval ship. The footage plays out to Kesha’s lyrics: “Tonight, we’re taking names / ‘Cause we don’t mess around / This place about to blow.”

The TikTok post has been liked over 2 million times and also viewed 16.7 million times. The video is captioned with the word “Lethality”, with a fire and eagle emoji.

Now, a few weeks later, it seems Kesha’s been made aware of the TikTok. On Monday (2 March), Kesha posted to X (Twitter) a condemnation of the White House’s use of her track.

“It’s come to my attention that The White House has used one of my songs on TikTok to incite violence and threaten war,” she wrote.

“Trying to make light of war is disgusting and inhumane. I absolutely do NOT approve of my music being used to promote violence of any kind. Love always trumps hate. Please love yourself and each other in times like this.

‘Stop using my music.’

“This show of blatant disregard for human life and quite frankly this attack on all of our nervous systems is the opposite of what I stand for.”

She followed up on the post a few hours later with another tweet. “Stop using my music,” she also wrote, tagging the White House account.

Furthermore, White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung responded directly to Kesha’s post.

“All these ‘singers’ keep falling for this,” he wrote. “This just gives us more attention and more view counts to our videos because people want to see what they’re b******* about. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Additionally, Kesha isn’t the first music star whose music has called out the White House for using their music.

Among others, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Jess Glynne and Olivia Rodrigo have called out the White House’s social team for posts with their music.
