Heated Rivalry author Rachel Reid has made a bold statement about Shane after delaying the release of Unrivaled due to health issues.
On 24 February, Reid shared an update about her new Game Changers instalment, titled Unrivaled, which had been scheduled for release later this year. She said the publication date has been pushed back to 1 June, 2027, explaining that her Parkinson’s symptoms have worsened.
Unrivaled is the seventh book in Reid’s hit series. The book follows Game Changer, Heated Rivalry, Tough Guy, Common Good, Role Model and The Long Game and will continue Shane and Ilya’s story.
In an interview prior to announcing the upcoming novel’s delay, but published on Tuesday (3 March), Reid told Out that Unrivaled will continue Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov’s love story, with Shane serving as the main character.
‘Shane is our hero’
She shared: “I do think that the three books, as a trilogy, it’s Shane who has like the hero’s arc.
“I think, even in The Long Game, it’s Shane. As much as the book focuses on Ilya, Shane is the one with that arc, and I do think that continues into this one [Unrivaled].”
Reid continued: “I do think Shane sort of is the main character of these three books. It’s pretty even, I think, in this one, because it’s really about them as a unit. They’re not apart very much. It’s probably a little more even than the other ones. But, ultimately, Shane is our hero.”
In December last year, the novelist cited the hockey romance’s popularity in helping her access better care more than two years following her Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Parkinson’s disease, which can be inherited, is a neurological condition caused by a reduction of dopamine in the brain, leading to a plethora of physical and psychological problems such as memory loss, violent tremors, and motor-function issues.
