Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) told Fox News on Monday that war smells, tastes, and sounds “bad” and “ugly” when he spoke to the press recently in defense of the United States’ illegal war against Iran. In response, Rep. Pat Ryan (D-NY) asked Mullin, “What the actual f**k are you talking about?” and pointed out that Mullin has never been in active military combat.
“War is ugly, smells bad, and if anybody’s ever been there, and been able to smell the war that’s happened around you and taste it and feel it in your nostrils and hear it, it’s something that you’ll never forget, and it’s ugly,” Mullin told Fox News’ America Reports. “And fortunately, you have, President Hegseth — or I say, ‘President Hegseth’ — Secretary [of Defense Pete] Hegseth that is — got a great relationship with President Trump. And [Secretary] Hegseth’s been there, he’s done that.”

Mullin’s comment apparently irritated Ryan, who is an Army veteran who served in Iraq.
“Hey @SenMullin, what the actual f**k are you talking about?” Ryan asked Mullin in a post on X on Monday. “Did I miss the part of your bio where you served in combat (or served in uniform at all??). Call of Duty doesn’t count.”
