Right-wing Christian broadcaster Erick Erickson wrote that he is more okay with President Donald Trump threatening to commit war crimes against Iran than he is with the Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) falling on Easter (something that occurred in 2024 during Joe Biden’s presidency, though Biden had nothing to do with scheduling either concurrent event).
Erickson made his comment in response to Trump’s expletive-fueled Easter social media message in which he promised to bomb Iran’s bridges and power plants, attacks which are considered war crimes under international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions.

Erickson recently posted a screenshot of Trump’s social media post and wrote, “Look, I don’t think it’s appropriate. Wish he hadn’t. But if I have to choose between this and Trans Recognition Day or whatever on Easter, okay.”

Erickson is one of numerous conservatives apparently still upset that Biden issued a TDOV proclamation on the Friday before Easter in 2024. Republicans blamed Biden for Easter and TDOV falling on the same Sunday that year, but Biden didn’t decide their coinciding dates.
The TDOV always falls on March 31, and Easter’s date changes annually. Easter, in Western Christianity, occurs on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, which means that it can fall anytime between March 22 and April 25 any given year.
Commenting on Erickson’s post, the trans-led publication The Trans Advocate wrote, “MAGA is a movement of sociopaths and rubes. This is a public health issue that MUST be addressed.”
Erickson is a former political contributor to both CNN and Fox News. He currently has his own radio show and online column. He rose to prominence in movement conservatism when he became editor-in-chief of RedState in 2005. Erickson was one of several co-authors of the 2017 Nashville Statement, an evangelical Christian document that declared, “It is sinful to approve of homosexual immorality or transgenderism.” The document called approval of LGBTQ+ identities “an essential departure” from the Christian faith.
In the past, he has claimed Pete Buttigieg believes Jesus was okay with bestiality and that pro-LGBTQ bills would “force Christian small businesses to provide their goods and services to support sexual orientation and transgenderism.”
Erickson once described Trump as “a racist” and “a fascist” and insisted, “I will not vote for Donald Trump. Ever.” He then went on to endorse and vote for him in the 2020 and 2024 elections.
