The lesbian mom of a nonbinary child is being praised for how she handled being accosted by an anti-trans activist while waiting for a hearing to start on gender-affirming care policy at the California legislature.

Beth Bourne, who describes trans people as “the biggest medical scandal of our times” in her X bio, posted a video of herself approaching someone in the halls of the state capitol and finding out they had a nonbinary child.

At 11, my identical twin started to transition. It changed my life.

The woman told her, “Get out of my face,” but Bourne didn’t listen and kept peppering her with questions.

She tried multiple times to tell Bourne to leave her alone, but Bourne yelled over her, “What bathroom does your nonbinary six-year-old use?”

“Are you letting your nonbinary six-year-old use the girls’ bathroom?” Bourne asked, without even knowing the sex the child was assigned at birth, but likely relying on the assumption that the child was assigned male to perpetuate the idea of dangerous “boys and men” in girls’ bathrooms.

“I don’t want your boy in my daughter’s bathroom,” Bourne continued, as if a six-year-old would be a threat to anyone anyway. She then accused the child of “pretending to be nonbinary,” even as the mother turned away from Bourne to make it clear the conversation was over.

But finally, the mom couldn’t take it anymore and turned around when Bourne accused her of “pretending” her child is nonbinary.

“Thank you for wanting to know the genitalia of my child,” the mom said, remaining calm but firm. “I’m allowing my child to be who they are.”

Bourne wouldn’t give up, continuing to accuse the mom of “lying” to her child.

The mom made it clear she would continue to advocate for her child and again tried to end the conversation. When Bourne found out the mom was a lesbian, she asked if she thought lesbians could have penises.

“Yeah, I think an individual can be who they are regardless of their genitalia,” she replied. “I love that you’re so stuck on penises and vulvas.”

Bourne then asked, “Why do all the lesbians have nonbinary children?”

“You are so full of sh*t,” the mom said, smiling. “I love it.”

On social media, people are praising the mom for standing up for her child. They also scorned Bourne for the inappropriate questions and for refusing to leave the woman alone.

Loudly and persistently asking a mom "what bathroom does your 6-year-old use" is not the W you think it is https://t.co/GgoiJKtrOC
