Dan Dakich, a former basketball player and college basketball coach and a current radio host, took to social media with the accusation that women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe “recruited” her ex, former WNBA player Sue Bird, into the homosexual “life.”

Bird and Rapinoe, who both have Olympic gold medals, were one of the most famous queer couples in the country for years, but announced late last week in a joint statement that their relationship has come to an end.

“We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade,” they said, “through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us.”

Relationships ending is a normal part of life, but for Dadich, it was proof that Rapinoe had turned Bird into a lesbian.

“Told you for years Sue Bird is not a lifetime lesbian,” Dakich wrote, even though neither Bird nor Rapinoe said anything about their sexual orientations changing. “She got recruited (as so many poor college athletes do) into that life.”

Bird is a 45-year-old woman who can make her own decisions about who she is in a relationship with, and it’s not possible for Rapinoe to “recruit” her or any other woman into being gay.
