November 20 2025, 08:15 A London whisky specialist is helping fight transphobia in the UK with a new limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky.
Independent bottler Milroy’s of Soho announced that 100 per cent of the profits from the new dram, appropriately called For the Dolls, would be donated to trans charity Not A Phase.
The 13-year-old single malt, which is available from Wednesday (19 November), will raise “vital funds” for the charity as well as highlighting the challenges faced by transgender people in the UK.
Freelance whisky writer Kristiane Westray, who joined with the 60-year-old bottler to create For the Dolls, said the campaign particularly focuses on the effect of the recent UK Supreme Court ruling which deemed the 2010 Equality Act’s definition of a woman referred to “biological sex” only.

“Like many at that time, I looked at what I could do to practically support the trans+ community around me,” she said. “I approached Milroy’s of Soho about arranging a bottling and I’m delighted that they’ve offered so much support.”
Distilled in 2012, the whisky, which costs £55 ($72) a bottle, offers notes of pear, blackberry, lemon strudel and rhubarb and custard, with hints of lemon meringue, orange oil, green apple, pecan and dried floral.
Westray said the campaign wasn’t just in defiance of rising institutional transphobia in the UK, but also of the often-stunted “traditional” values within the industry.
“The scotch industry has a reputation for being quite traditional and there are lingering misconceptions that whisky is only for a few – notably wealthy, cisgender men. I’m here to say that whisky is for everyone, of all genders, and that very much includes trans+ people.”
Expressing their gratitude, a spokesperson for Not A Phase said: “Every bottle sold directly funds vital services and initiatives that uplift trans+ adults across the UK, and it sends a clear message: trans+ lives matter, and allies in all spaces, including whisky, are standing with us.”
For the Dolls whisky is available from Milroy’s of Soho and select London bars, including 3 Greek Street and Dram Bar, on Denmark Street.
