Perhaps we should have predicted the results of this week’s LGBTQ Nation readers poll.
We asked you earlier this week what you’re feeling as we get close to Election Day. And just about everyone – 89% – said “anxiety.” Everything else got 5% or fewer votes, and “joy” – as in, the joy of seeing people coming together to work for a better future – got the fewest votes, not even getting a single vote for the first day this poll was live.
This is understandable, considering what’s on the line for LGBTQ+ people this election. LGBTQ+ people could lose equal access to health care – or any access to certain kinds of health care, in the case of transgender youth. LGBTQ+ people’s already tenuous protections against discrimination at the federal level could be rolled back immediately if Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t win.

And that’s just LGBTQ+ rights issues. From appointments to the Supreme Court to a possible repeal of the Affordable Care Act, along with the threat to democracy posed by Trump as well as his promise to deport tens of millions of people, the election has huge importance for LGBTQ+ people. And polls aren’t doing much to alleviate that anxiety.
But Election Day will soon be upon us, and LGBTQ Nation will be providing around-the-clock coverage in a live blog of that evening. We will bring news of the most important elections for our community that night and the days following so that you will know about our victories and the challenges we’ll face as soon as possible.
LGBTQ Nation will have another poll next week at our Equality For All 2024 election news center.
