Readers want Democrats to beef up their progressive bona fides
November 16 2024, 08:15

LGBTQ Nation readers want Democrats to move to the left in the wake of election losses on multiple fronts last week.

Earlier this week, we asked readers what Democrats should be doing most to win back the White House in 2028, out of four options. The most popular choice was to “propose and promote a more progressive agenda.”

But it wasn’t that far ahead of two other options, which were to communicate better iwth groups that are moving away from the Democratic party and to attack Republicans’ economic record incessantly while defending Democrats’ economic record better.

Tacking to the center, though, was not something many LGBTQ Nation readers would recommend.

Bar chart titled “What would most help Democrats win the White House in 2028?” The chart displays responses from 240 participants between November 11 and November 15, 2024. Four options are presented with corresponding percentages: “Propose and promote a more progressive agenda, including single payer health care, increased taxes on the wealthy, etc.” at 30% (pink bar). “Propose and promote a more moderate agenda, including a tough on crime stance, deregulation of certain markets, etc.” at 18% (lighter pink bar). “Communicate better with groups that are turning away from Democrats, like young straight men, on social media” at 27% (blue bar). “Attack Republicans’ economic record incessantly while doing a better job defending Democratic accomplishments” at 25% (purple bar). Logo of LGBTQ Nation is displayed at the bottom right.
