Fox host rejoices that Carrie Underwood will perform inauguration because she’s blonde, unlike Lizzo
January 16 2025, 08:15

Fox News host Jesse Watters celebrated that country star Carrie Underwood will perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration because she’s straight and blonde.

“When a straight, blonde female is singing at the inauguration, I think we’re back. I think we’re definitely back,” Watters told his guest, comedian Nick Di Paolo.

Watters said that Trump will be “fair” as president, so LGBTQ+ people shouldn’t worry about a thing.

“Carrie Underwood. I mean, thank God Kamala didn’t win,” Di Paolo responded, mispronouncing Vice President Harris’s first name. “We would’ve had to see Lizzo’s a** for 45 minutes.”

The news that Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at the January 20th swearing-in ceremony has significantly disappointed her LGBTQ+ fans, especially because she has spoken out for LGBTQ+ rights in the past.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Gay country singer Kameron Ross told Out, “People like Carrie think that being an ally means that you have a gay guy on your team or one that does your hair but in reality it means refusing a gig like this because of what it would mean to so many. A lot of us are expressing anger over it but I really just think it’s because we are hurt.”

He added, “I’d love it if people would use this time as they get rid of their Carrie Underwood music to support country artist[s] that actually stand up for us, like Maren Morris going head to head over defending trans kids or Kacey Musgraves giving a nice big [middle finger emoji] to Ted Cruz while performing at ACL or Kelsea Ballerini bringing Drag Race girls on stage with her despite what conservative country fans would think.”

Gay country star Adam Mac added in his own statement that it is “disheartening” to find out Underwood supports Trump. “I understand when she says that we need to unite as a country, but honoring a man who actively works to take away the rights of a community she seemingly uplifted and supported a few years ago feels like a significant shift.”

One Carrie Underwood fan account on X fully changed to a Megan Maroney account in response to the news.

“She disappointed the entire generation z who she was our first country queen,” the account declared. “We will be streaming @_megmoroney now. Carrie sales have declined and will be none now she lost support of lgbtq and poc community who loved her. We tried but I guess love doesn’t really win.”

Amidst all of this, a clip has resurfaced of Underwood and Brad Paisley mocking Obamacare at the Country Music Awards in 2013.
