Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and other House Republicans have been shamed on the social media platform X for lying about the GOP passing a budget that will end taxation on workers’ tips. The GOP passed no such budget.
In a Wednesday X post, Boebert wrote, “No Tax On Tips has passed the House! Promises Made. Promises Kept. That’s how MAGA [Make America Great Again] works!” However, other X users added a Community Note under her post which said, “The recently passed House Republican budget blueprint does not explicitly contain the phrase ‘no taxes on tips’ and doesn’t mention tips at all. The current budget resolution serves as a framework, outlining goals without detailing specific tax policy changes.”

“I made an error regarding a mistaken identity,” Boebert later said.
Some X commenters noted that her error meant that she didn’t know what she was voting on when she supported the budget resolution. Despite this, her post remains active.

Promises Made. Promises Kept.
That’s how MAGA works!
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) also made a similar statement, writing on X, “Congratulations America, tonight we finally put an end to tax on tips and tax on overtime!”
However, her post also got a Community Note stating that the House’s continuing resolution doesn’t include any such provisions bur rather sets fiscal targets rather than outlines specific tax or labor laws.
Luna later deleted her post.
