The official X/Twitter account for the Assassin’s Creed video game series just burned Elon Musk so hard we’re yelling requisite en pace.
The social media account behind the game series, which – in case you’re not familiar with it, sees players take on the role of an assassin in various historical settings, sneaking around on rooftops and leaping from ledge to ledge – just eviscerated the controversial tech billionaire more thoroughly than, well, a trained assassin.
The Assassin’s Creed X account stepped in after Elon Musk criticised Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker over a promotion he did with the Ubisoft game franchise.
In a post on X, Piker, dressed in assassin garb, announced he was streaming the latest titles in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, as part of a media sponsorship.
The latest title, set in 1500s feudal Japan, has come under scrutiny from right-wing pundits and gamers, who argue that the series, in which a Tuscan nobleman punches the Pope over a golden apple that parted the Red Sea, is historically inaccurate because it features Black and LGBTQ+ characters.
Elon Musk – no stranger to obscure gaming controversies – waded in on the backlash to Hasan Piker’s advertisement, calling him a “fraud” in a post on X, and followed up by saying: “Sell-out would be more accurate. Objectively, he is promoting a terrible game just for the money.”
Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?

But the Tesla chief executive, who has more than 10,300 times the amount of money than an average American will earn in their entire life time, was roasted by the official Assassin’s Creed account, which responded: “Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?”
The post seems to refer to the news that Musk, who professes to be an avid gamer, has admitted to paying people to play games such as Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2 to boost his account statistics.
Musk reportedly made it to the top spot on the Diablo IV player leader board in November, raising questions over how he found the time to play, given his political and commercial obligations.

Doubts that Musk was the one on his account increased after he played the game Path of Exile 2, on which he claimed to be a “master gamer”, live on Twitch in January and appeared to have no idea what he was doing.
It was later revealed by YouTube personality Nick “NikoWrex” Hayes that he had been paid by Musk to make the account look better.
With Musk’s permission, Hayes divulged in a YouTube video that the billionaire approached him to help boost the account, sharing a set of messages between the pair in which Musk said he felt it was “impossible” to reach the top spot without account boosting.
Asked whether he intended to take credit for Hayes’ work on Path of Exiles 2, Musk replied that he “never claimed that”, but when criticised for refusing to say sorry, asked: “What would I be apologising for?”
