Judge Susan Crawford is the projected winner of a special state supreme court election in Wisconsin that was held yesterday, a closely-watched race because of all the money and time anti-trans billionaire Elon Musk spent trying to get her opponent elected. And she was laughing about the situation in her victory speech.
“I’ve got to tell you, as a little girl growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never could have imagined that I’d be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin,” she said as the crowd laughed. “And we won!” Everyone cheered.

Crawford, who was considered the progressive candidate in the nonpartisan election, faced conservative judge Brad Schimel for the 10-year term on the state’s highest court.
Schimel has made several appearances at Alliance Defending Freedom events, the Christian Nationalist legal organization that was certified as an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. During his campaign, Schimel aired an anti-trans ad attacking Crawford for supporting trans rights to public accommodations and gender-affirming medical care.
Wisconsin is one of the purplest states in the country, nearly evenly divided in statewide elections for the past decade. The state narrowly went Republican in November’s presidential election while voting to reelect out Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) by a small margin.
But Crawford was able to handily win her election yesterday, getting 54% of the votes to Schimel’s 45%, according to CBS News, maintaining the liberal balance of the state’s supreme court, which could decide on matters related to the 2026 and 2028 elections, including redistricting cases.
Musk attempted to win the election for Schimel, spending $20 million to get him elected, which included giving two people a $1 million prize for voting in the election.
“What’s at issue here is control of the US House of Representatives,” Musk said on X before the election was held. “This Wisconsin Supreme Court race might decide the future of America and Western Civilization!”
“It’s a big deal.”
But after his candidate lost the election, Musk said that it wasn’t that important to him after all.
“This was the most important thing,” he posted on X, responding to another post about a constitutional amendment that was also on the ballot yesterday in Wisconsin.
Musk was mocked for the post.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha. You said the fate of western civilization depended on the Supreme Court race and now you are coping hard. This has been the law in Wisconsin since 2016!!!
