Robert Irwin has given fans a sneak peek down under as he wrangled his snake in a racy underwear campaign. And, no, it’s not what you’re thinking.
The son of the late Steve Irwin has already dipped his toes into the modelling world, having made a surprise appearance at the Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2024. This year, he’s baring all in a new ad campaign for Australian underwear brand Bonds, which is being rolled out in the US.
The “Made For Down Under” campaign sees the 21-year-old I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here Australia host posing with actual snakes, a spider and a lizard in his boxers, and nothing else.
In an interview with People, Irwin said it was an “immediate yes” when asked to do the campaign. “I’m at this point in my life where I’m trying to do as many different and random exciting things, and if it’s something that makes me a little bit nervous, that I’ve never done before and it’s a bit of an adrenaline rush? That’s what I want to be doing.”
The conservationist reflected on his lifetime of experience “wrangling crocs and snakes”, adding, “to feature a little slice of that excitement in this new campaign, mate, it has been so much fun. I mean, I’m surrounded by spiders and snakes except [this time] I’m in my undies. That’s the only difference”.
However, he added that “getting your gear off is way scarier than wrangling a croc!”
“Wrangling animals is easy… and I had to do both. It was not on my bingo card. It felt so surreal. But it’s true what they say about Bonds, mate. They keep you comfy the whole way through.”
The fan reaction to the images has been nothing less than thirsty, understandably. “ROBERT IRWIN. I LOVE YOUR SNAKE,” one onlooker wrote.
“Damn. That’s one lucky lizard,” penned another. “Brb, booking my flight right now,” wrote a third.
Bonds are available to purchase in the US and Australia now.
