Baseball star Triston Casas has admitted he plays with painted his finger nails to wind up right-wing fans.
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas, who has sported the different coloured nails since making his MLB debut for the team in 2022, said: “Pretty much anything that bothers people, I wanna do out there.”
Casas revealed the reason behind painting his nails in Netflix’s The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox. A camera crew followed the team during the 2024 season for the documentary, which dropped on the streaming service on Tuesday (8 April).

Asked by a teammate if annoying conservatives was the main reason for painting his nails, he replied: “That’s exactly why.” A clip posted on X/Twitter showed the star getting a foot pedicure, when he told his stylist: “Oh, these snap, Stephanie. Go off, queen.”
Despite his fame, Casas said he’s “low maintenance” and doesn’t need a lot. “A bed and a TV, reading, watching shows,” he said. “I hate watching baseball though, I never watch baseball.”

And he certainly isn’t bothered by the homophobic responses he’s received. “It doesn’t change anything about the person I am, or what I bring to the table. It’s just my video-game character,” he said.
Casas has scored 43 home runs for the Red Sox. He won a gold medal at the 2017 under-18 World Cup, and was a silver medallist at the Olympic Games in Tokyo four years ago, when baseball was included for the first time since 2008.
