George Santos—the disgraced former U.S. representative for Long Island and Queens, New York—has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for crimes including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, money laundering and a host of other frauds and deceptions.
Said Santos to The New York Times in anticipation of a long sentence, “I’m totally resigned.”

One of his recent posts denied committing crimes that he has already pled guilty to.
In his guilty plea last August—following a year of flamboyant denials, obfuscation, and expulsion from the House—Santos, age 36, acknowledged that he’d lied to Congress, fraudulently collected unemployment benefits, and duped campaign donors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Prosecutors for the Eastern District of New York called on Judge Joanna Seybert to impose the maximum sentence of 87 months behind bars in keeping with the “seriousness of his unparalleled crimes.”
Santos admitted responsibility for his deceits as part of plea deal. In addition to his prison sentence, the expelled House member is obligated to make restitution to his victims for a total of $373,749.97.
Central to that effort, Santos has cashed in on his infamy with a Cameo account, an OnlyFans page, and a monetized podcast called Pants on Fire, making light of — and money on — his trail of lies and duplicity. His guests included Joe Exotic, the infamous “Tiger King”, and his own criminal defense team.
“People say, ‘Oh, he doesn’t atone.’ What does that even mean? Should I, like, curl up in a ball and stay in that fetal position forever?” Santos asked his fans in one episode, skirting the boundaries of remorse.
Santos may be led out of court in shackles today or given the opportunity to report to prison at a later date. Regardless, in a last-minute flurry of interviews, Santos told another disgraced former congressman, failed U.S Attorney General nominee Matt Gaetz that he’ll seek solitary confinement for the duration of his sentence “because I fear for my safety.”

While Donald Trump has pardoned hundreds of convicted felons since taking office in January, he’s signaled no such action for Santos, an avowed MAGA loyalist and fan of the president.
“I haven’t petitioned the president for a pardon,” Santos told Gaetz last night. “If the president were to extend one, I’d be humbly grateful, because he’d be taking a major weight off my back.”
In an interview with one-time popular muck-raking journalist Perez Hilton, Santos was more to the point about asking for a pardon in response to a long sentence.
“You bet your sweet a** I would,” Santos said with a smirk.
In service of liberal tears, the president — a convicted felon himself — might just do it.
