Lux Pascal, the sister of actor and trans rights advocate Pedro Pascal, says her brother taught her that “there’s no reason for me to hide who I am”.
The 32-year-old Chilean actress, who came out as trans in 2021, has spoken about her sibling relationship with The Last of Us star Pedro. La California star confirmed that Pedro really is “as kind as we think he is”.
“I’m incredibly proud,” Lux told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday (27 April) at Madrid’s Platino Awards. “But the thing is that I’ve always known that he is a superstar.
“What makes him so fabulous is that [Pedro] wears all of his humanity on his sleeve, and he doesn’t hide who he is. And I think that’s refreshing, because usually we move around the world hiding who we are. That’s the main lesson I’ve gotten from him: there’s no reason for me to hide who I am, right? And I think people are seeing that.”
Pedro has often come out swinging for trans rights, including when he modelled a “Protect The Dolls” T-shirt at both his 50th birthday celebration and on the red carpet. Following the UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman, he also called out JK Rowling for celebrating the ruling.
During such a worrying time for the trans and non-binary community, Lux told the outlet that she’s keeping herself busy with work.
“Maybe it’s not a good idea, but I’m focusing on my work. I’m doing stuff, and I want to keep my focus on that, and hopefully the storm will cease. But I’m grateful, and I’m extremely privileged, and I think that continuing that route will help other people think with more ease.”
The star continued: “It is a difficult time, and I wish it wasn’t as difficult. I mean, we just went through a pandemic. Can we all just chill for a while and show empathy towards one another? I don’t know, maybe I’m too much of a romantic.”
Lux added that she has “projects coming up in the United States” and is “excited”, but wasn’t able to provide further details. As per IMDb, the actress is set to appear later this year in an upcoming Spanish-speaking film, Miss Carbón.
While plot details are largely under wraps, the summary reads on the site: “A transgender woman lands her dream job of working in a carbon mine, but after having the sex-change surgery, must face a superstition that bans female workers from entering the underground galleries.” Lux is set to appear as Carlita.
