Tech billionaire Elon Musk is known to have 14 kids by several different women, but a writer for leading US politics and foreign affairs magazine The Atlantic has suggested the number could be a lot higher.
Elizabeth Bruenig, who writes for The Atlantic, spoke on the Sanity podcast last week about her piece for the magazine titled The Harem of Elon Musk.
She said: “I believe he has 14 known children, but people who spoke to the Wall Street Journal for their exposé on his childbearing habits suggested the number is much higher.”
“I have heard people estimate [it] at 100 or more. That would surprise me, but it’s definitely higher than 14. And so far, I think there are four women he’s had children with. Let’s see. Possibly five with the addition of Ashley St. Clair, but I think it’s four,” Bruenig continued.
Alisyn Camerota, one of the hosts of the Sanity podcast, chimed in to say that it’s possible the public don’t know about “all these other children and women is because he makes his baby mamas sign NDAs and he’s very lawyered up and he’s litigious and he does sue them if they speak.”
According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, the 53-year-old Tesla founder offered 26-year-old influencer Ashley St. Clair a one-time payment of $15 million, as well as $100,000 a month in support, to keep quiet about their infant son: believed to have been named Romulus.
Camerota also questioned how having multiple children with various women lines up with the “family values” platform of the Republican Party, which Musk supports.
She said: “There’s something very dystopian, I find, about this and dark and hypocritical, wildly hypocritical…”
“How is this family values? He doesn’t acknowledge some of his children. And he refuses to be on the birth certificate. I mean, this flies in the face of anything that any sane person sees as family values,” Camerota said.
But Bruenig explained that Musk is not seeking a traditional family but rather that Musk is concerned about declining birth rates and the future of human civilisation, which may have prompted him to try and carry out a real life version of the Sims 4 video game 100 baby challenge.
Musk has previously said he “really wants smart people to be having children”, and clearly considers himself to be one of those people.
Musk shares five children with his ex-wife Justine Wilson and three children with musician Grimes, as well as four children with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis.
Musk and Wilson also had another son, who sadly died at 10 weeks old. He is famously estranged from his trans daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson. Musk has publicly slammed his daughter’s decision to transition to female.
In July 2024, Musk spoke to right-wing commentator Jordan Peterson for the Daily Wire, where he said his daughter Vivian Wilson – who no longer speaks to him – had been “killed [by the] woke mind virus”.
In 2021, Forbes described the Tesla CEO of taking “an engineering approach to reproduction”, noting that his first five children, including Vivian Jenna Wilson, came into this world via IVF.
Taking to Threads (the Meta-owned app that acts a rival to Elon Musk’s X) on Sunday 9 March, Vivian Jenna Wilson alleged that Elon Musk uses sex-selective IVF as he has a preference for male offspring, writing: “My assigned sex at birth was a commodity that was bought and paid for. So when I was feminine as a child and then turned out to be transgender, I was going against the product that was sold.”
