April 30 2025, 08:15

The TARDIS is heading to the silver screen, people! The two-part finale episodes of Doctor Who season two are set to be released in UK cinemas.

Ncuti Gatwa’s version of the Time Lord has made waves for channelling “queer energy” in the role. Now that his brand new companion Belinda Chandra (played by Varada Sethu) is on the scene for the second season (season 15 if you’re an OG Whovian), fans are gearing up for the Doctor Who season two finale episodes.

BBC Studios and CinemaLive announced on Tuesday (29 April) that the two-part finale of Doctor Who season two will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 31 May. The episode, “Wish World”, is set to kickstart the double-bill saga at 6 pm before “The Reality War” is screened.

“Watch the epic Season 2 finale on the big screen!” the X post read. “The two-episode #DoctorWho season finale WISH WORLD and THE REALITY WAR will be available in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 31st May. Tickets go on sale on 1st May.”

A plot synopsis for the episode reads, as per the official website: “Belinda Chandra has been kidnapped by robots, faced a terrifying god and a creature of pure evil on her travels with the Doctor. With the TARDIS still unable to get her home to Earth, Belinda must fight for her life as the Doctor faces an almighty threat to reality itself…”

Natasha Spence, events director at BBC Studios, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with CinemaLive once again and give Doctor Who fans across the UK and Ireland the opportunity to watch their favourite show together.

“This finale promises to be an amazing ride for Whovians, and we’re excited to share the Doctor and Belinda’s latest adventures with them on the big screen.”

John Travers, head of acquisitions & distribution for CinemaLive, added: “Following the success of last year’s midnight cinema event, we’re excited to be working with BBC Studios to ensure that this time round Doctor Who fans of all ages are able to share in the epic experience of watching the two-part season finale on the big screen.”

A full list of cinemas in the UK and Ireland screening the episodes is yet to be announced. It is not yet clear whether the finale episodes will have an early release as per previous episodes in season two.

Doctor Who continues on Saturday (3 May) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. In the US and Australia, you can stream episodes on Disney+.
