Prime Video’s upcoming new TV show, Overcompensating has released its full-length trailer, and Lukas Gage, Bowen Yang and Megan Fox are all starring in the horny college comedy.
The TV show is created by and led by internet star Benito Skinner as a closeted student who has to navigate new friends, relationships, and a whole lot of homoerotic moments, apparently.
There’s all kinds of mischief afoot, including Skinner’s character desperately trying to fit in to – you guessed it – overcompensate for his sexuality, including attending frat parties, downing beers galore, and hollering at his classmates.
One scene even sees Benny and his girlfriend Carmen (Wally Baram) attempting to get it on in his dorm room, except our protagonist is struggling to maintain an erection. “I just have to go to the bathroom, I have to pee,” he says as an excuse, running out of the room just after fantasising about his classmate Miles (Rish Shah).
Elsewhere, Benny manages to find himself in a room with guest stars Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, whose characters are more comfortable with their sexualities. “Open your mouth, I’m going to spit in it,” Yang’s character declares to Rogers’ character, who shouts at Benny to leave the room.
A third scene sees Benny meeting Gage’s character at a bar, with the two appearing to eventually grow closer and share a kiss. Later in the trailer, a poster of Fox (who appears as herself) comes to life and tells the star that she is “so supportive and so so proud” of him.
“Come as you aren’t,” the trailer’s tagline reads – before superstar Charli XCX makes an incredibly Brat performance and shouts at an assistant, “What the f*** am I even doing here?”
The assembled cast also includes Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror) and Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus), while Connie Britton (Nashville, The White Lotus), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), Julia Shiplett (Happiness for Beginners), Tommy Do (Hacks), Alexandra Beaton (Single All the Way), Claire Qute (Workin’ Moms), Elias Azimi (Back to One), and Maddie Phillips (Gen V) will all star in recurring roles.
Overcompensating, which is being produced by A24 and Amazon MGM Studios, will drop all eight episodes on its release.
Scott King serves as showrunner and executive producer, and Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin executive produce for Strong Baby – and Charli XCX is the executive music producer for the series.
Overcompensating will be available to stream on Prime Video from 15 May.
