Glee stars Darren Criss and Jonathan Groff are set to go head to head for the same gong at the 2025 Tony Awards.
In 2015, the famed Ryan Murphy-created comedy-drama concluded, and former co-stars Criss (who played Blaine Anderson) and Groff (Jesse St. James) are reuniting a decade on at the 2025 Tony Awards. Both Criss and Groff are nominated for Best Actor in a Musical.
Criss has received the nod for his performance in the original new Broadway musical, Maybe Happy Ending, while Groff is nominated for his turn as American singer-songwriter Bobby Darin in Just In Time.
Also nominated in the category are Andrew Durand for Dead Outlaw, Tom Francis for Sunset Boulevard, James Monroe Iglehart for A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical and Jeremy Jordan for Floyd Collins.
Elsewhere, George Clooney and Nicole Scherzinger have received Tony Award nominations for the first time this year. The Ticket to Paradise actor was nominated for Leading Actor in a Play for Good Night and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film, which he starred in and directed.

“It’s a thrill to have five nominations for this play,” the actor said in a statement. “For everyone involved, this has been an incredible experience. I couldn’t be more proud or feel more lucky.”
Olivier Award winner Scherzinger, however, is nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Sunset Boulevard. She is joined by most-Tony-nominated performer of all time Audra McDonald for her performance in Gypsy. McDonald has six Tonys to her name and has nominations for a further five.
All with a whopping ten nominations each are musicals Death Becomes Her, based on the 1992 film starring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis, the futuristic romance Maybe Happy Ending and Buena Vista Social Club.
Succession star Sarah Snook garnered a nod for Best Actress in a Play for The Picture of Dorian Gray, having previously won an Olivier award for portraying 26 different characters, alongside Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink for John Proctor is the Villain, Purpose’s LaTanya Richardson Jackson, The Hill’s of California’s Laura Donnelly and The Roommate’s Mia Farrow.
However, Romeo + Juliet stars Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor, Redwood’s Idina Menzel and Othello’s Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal have been snubbed from this year’s nominations. For Wicked star Menzel, Redwood marks her return to Broadway in 10 years.
The Tony Awards 2025 are taking place on 8 June, with Wicked icon Cynthia Erivo taking over hosting duties from former presenter Ariana DeBose. You can view the full list of Tony Awards 2025 nominees here.
The ceremony is set to take place on 8 June at 8 pm EST and will be available to watch live on CBS and Paramount+.
