Trisha Paytas pays homage to iconic queer film To Wong Foo in ‘Gay’ music video with Drag Race icons
May 14 2025, 08:15

Influencer and YouTuber Trisha Paytas has released a music video for her track titled “Gay”, which features RuPaul’s Drag Race icons.

The earworm of a track features catchy lyrics like, “We’re all a little gay,” and “You want to eat like a buffet? Then you’ve got to make it gay.” But it’s Paytas’ accompanying music video that has the LGBTQ+ community gagged.

Inspired by iconic queer 1995 film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, the star enlisted the help of Season 17 star Kori King and runner-up Jewels Sparkles. The trio dressed up as main characters Noxeema Jackson, Vida and Chi-Chi, originally portrayed by Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo, respectively.

Also featuring in the “Gay” music video are fellow drag performers DIVOS, Joella, Acacia Forgot, Bohenne Arreaux and Imara Del Chique, alongside dancers Jonah Almanzar, Aleksander Palinski, Benjamin Bigler and Joseph Brown.

“This is everything we needed,” wrote one fan in the comments. “So much queer joy,” echoed another.

“This is too iconic,” wrote a third, while a fourth penned, “oh this is so iconic, i love this so much.”

Taking to Instagram to promote her new music video, Paytas honoured her LGBTQ+ fans. “To the Queer community, you make this world a brighter place. I love you so much,” she wrote.

“I didn’t know where I belonged when I moved to LA at 18, didn’t know what ‘category’ I was in’. Now at 37, not needing a label but feeling seen and understood has brought me to my state of peace with my sexuality and identity.”

Paytas, who previously came under fire for her coming out video, added that all proceeds from the music video will be donated to TransLifeline, a US charity she has previously raised funds for. “Now more than ever, these organisations with peer support and legal support need our help. $10k has been donated already,” she said.

“We also donated to ACLU Drag Defense Fund to keep fighting to uphold our first ammendment for all LGBTQ+ performers. Donations also made to The Trevor Project, who offer 24/7 hotline for those who need help. And please reach out for help. It saved my life. We need you here,” she added.

Trisha Paytas’ “Gay” music video is out now.
