Pope Leo’s MAGA brother shared bizarre memes about Nancy Pelosi’s husband being gay
May 16 2025, 08:15

Pope Leo XIV’s older brother has a history of posting MAGA memes and misinformation on social media, according to multiple reports.

On Sunday, May 11, The Daily Beast published a review of Louis Prevost’s Facebook page where the 73-year-old Port Charlotte, Florida, resident shared a trove of incendiary pro-Trump posts. Prevost’s page has since been made private, but according to The Daily Beast, among his recent re-posts was one that showed a 1996 video of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and included a caption referring to her as a “drunk c**t” and repeating the false, far-right conspiracy theory that her husband “had grindr dates.”

Is the new pope MAGA or woke? Depends whom you ask.
Only time will tell where Leo falls on the ideological spectrum.

The false claims about Paul Pelosi stem from a 2022 attack in which a man broke into the Pelosis’ home intent on “kneecapping” Nancy Pelosi, who was away at the time, and instead beat her husband with a hammer. Despite the assailant’s social media history showing that he believed in multiple far-right conspiracy theories, right-wing media quickly spun an entirely false narrative in which the attacker was Paul Pelosi’s same-sex lover.

According to The Daily Beast, Prevost’s Facebook page reads like a greatest hits list of MAGA content, from re-posts of pro-Elon Musk memes to anti-vaccination misinformation to posts questioning the results of the 2020 election. In one post, Prevost himself reportedly wrote that “Back in the earlier days of our country, before lefties took over and ruined our schools, all these lefty dems would’ve been tarred, feathered and rode out of town on a donkey, or worse, shot or strung up for screwing with people’s lives so much.”

As the outlet notes, some of Prevost’s posts stand in stark contrast to positions his brother has taken. While Pope Leo reposted a National Catholic Reporter article criticizing Vice President J.D. Vance via his since deleted X account back in February, Prevost praised Vance’s “phenomenal” performance during the 2024 vice presidential debate, adding that he would “make a great VP and then, a great President,” according to the Beast.

Prevost has also reportedly posted anti-immigrant content repeatedly, while, prior to being elected pontiff, Pope Leo was critical of the Trump administration’s draconian immigration policies, according to The Cut‘s recent review of his X feed.

Unfortunately, the brothers may be more closely aligned in their views on LGBTQ+ issues. While serving as a bishop in Peru, Leo opposed a government plan to teach about gender in schools, telling local media at the time that “gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don’t exist.” And in a 2012 address, he reportedly decried Western media and pop culture for fostering “sympathy” for the “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children.”

As The Guardian reports, Prevost also shared anti-LGBTQ+ memes on his Facebook page, including one that read “Your child isn’t trans – you’re just a s***ty parent.”

In a May 9 interview with local ABC affiliate Gulf Coast News, Prevost compared what he believes will be his brother’s approach to LGBTQ+ Catholics with that of his late predecessor, Pope Francis. Prevost noted that Francis “was a little more liberal with the transsexuals and the homosexuals and whatnot.”

“To me, yeah, the church should be welcoming to them, but there’s limits because some of that stuff’s against church rules,” he said. “But you don’t just kick ‘em away. You gotta try to bring ‘em back. I think he’ll be open to that as well and good at doing that.”

During a Monday, May 12, appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Prevost addressed his recent Pelosi re-post, telling the host that “I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it.”

Prevost described himself as “a MAGA type,” explaining that he likes to “stir the pot” with his social media posts, similar to the way he believes Trump “says things just to stir the pot.”

Prevost said no one from the Vatican has contacted him about his posts, but admitted that he’s decided to back away from social media going forward. Since his brother was elected, Prevost said he’s been “biting my tongue at some of the stuff that is out there on social media.”

While he told Morgan that he doesn’t want to make “waves” for his youngest brother, Prevost certainly seems to be enjoying his own moment in the spotlight. In addition to appearing on Morgan’s show, he’s also granted multiple interviews, including a recent New York Times profile in which he similarly said he plans to tone down his social media activity.
