Singer Maren Morris has opened up on the differences between dating women and men a year after she came out as bisexual.

“The Middle” singer announced via Instagram last year that she identifies as “the B in LGBTQ+”, after she divorced her ex-husband Ryan Hurd.

The Beatrix Butterfly author guest-starred on a recent episode of the U Up? podcast, where she shared her experience of dating women and men.

“My experience has been really positive,” she said. “But I also have a confusion sometimes because I can connect with a woman, any woman, within like two minutes, and we’ll be talking about our childhoods… Like, we will get into it so quickly. With a guy, that would take years to get into that trauma.

“But we’re so good at building community out of sharing stories or gossip or whatever… It’s a survival technique. We cling together out of vulnerabilities,” the Dreamsicle album creator said.

Despite being able to relate to women on an “emotionally deep level”, Morris said it can sometimes be difficult for her to tell whether they have a platonic relationship or something more.

“I sometimes have the hard delineation of romance versus friendship, because women can connect so quickly and easily, which is a magical thing about us,” she said. 

“Because at the end of the day, I have enough friends. I think I’m good. I’m looking for something beyond that. But sometimes the chemistry isn’t there. It doesn’t depend, you know, on the guy or the girl.”

Before she came out, the star had been a staunch ally for the LGBTQ+ community. 

In 2023, following attempts to introduce a ban on public drag performances in Tennessee, which would have made it offence to perform drag in front of minors, Morris claimed to have introduced her then three-year-old to drag queens.

“Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today,” she told the crowd at Nashville LGBTQ+ benefit concert Love Rising at the time. “So Tennessee – f***ing arrest me.”
