Dearest gentle reader, Bridgerton has been confirmed to be returning for season 5 and 6, and fans are convinced that the latter could centre on this sapphic love story.
Warning: Bridgerton spoilers ahead.
Netflix took to social media last week to announce the launch date of season four of the period drama, and confirm there’s more Bridgerton goodness ahead.
The streaming site posted a letter from Lady Whistledown to Instagram, which read: “Rarely is this author granted the opportunity to share with you such information.
“It is with great pleasure I can announce Bridgerton shall return for Seasons 5 and 6. Do celebrate accordingly,” the note continued. “And in the meantime, do prepare yourselves, for Bridgerton Season 4 shall debut in 2026. It would seem this author is going to be quite busy,” the announcement concluded.
Who will Bridgerton season 6 be about?
While details for Bridgerton’s season 6 plot are yet to be announced, fans are speculating that the series could have its first proper sapphic storyline in Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd)’s love story.
Based on the original book series by Julia Quinn, Francesca marries Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli), before he dies unexpectedly. The character then starts to fall for his cousin, Michael Stirling.
However, fans of the Netflix adaptation will recall in season three that the character was gender-swapped, and Francesca appeared to experience her queer-awakening opposite Michaela Sterling (Masali Baduza). The casting decision was received with mixed reviews, while author Quinn even staunchly defended the move.

Although season 6 is yet to receive a firm release date, social media is rife with speculation about the status of “Franchaela”, as the pair have been adorably dubbed by fans.
“So you’re telling me I gotta wait ‘til 2030 to get my sapphic Bridgerton story,” wrote one.
“It’s 2030. Bridgerton season 6 part 2 has dropped. The Franchaela rain kiss and gardeners’ cottage scene is on Netflix. Life is good,” another echoed.
“In fact, we’d better get two sapphic Bridgerton seasons in a row. If Eloise marries a mediocre man, there will be riots,” a third quipped.
