May 26 2025, 08:15

Here are the top 5 LGBTQ+ stories of the week to help you catch up on what you may have missed.

House passes bill banning coverage of trans health care through Medicaid, CHIP & Obamacare

The short version: House Republicans passed a major budget bill that will increase the deficit because of massive tax cuts, while also cutting public health programs. Transgender people of all ages who depend on Medicaid, CHIP, and the Obamacare exchanges will see less access to gender-affirming care with new restrictions if the bill passes the Senate in its current form.

Why it matters: If the bill passes in this form, it will be devastating for trans people who depend on Medicaid and other federally regulated forms of health care. LGBTQ+ people who depend on Medicaid, CHIP, and Medicare will also be affected by the broader budget cuts.
