Trans trailblazer Ts Madison has been honoured by Washington, D.C. with a day in honour of her, “Ts Madison Day”. 

The actress, RuPaul’s Drag Race judge, trans activist and podcast host can now add a US city honoree to her list of accolades. Mayor Muriel Bowser made the Proclamation last week on behalf of the US Capital, declaring 23 May as “Ts Madison Day”. 

Responding to the announcement, Madison wrote on Instagram: “Thank you Washington DC, for honouring and Proclaiming May 23 officially TS MADISON DAY. 

“I am so honoured and humbled and overjoyed to be still moving loud and proud as a Black transgender woman during this egregious Trump regime, stepping over all the hate that comes with it!

The official Proclamation read: “Ts Madison is a fearless advocate and cultural icon who has used her life and voice to lift up our most vulnerable, standing tall in the face of stigma and speaking truth where silence once reigned. 

“Ts Madison has changed the narrative for Black, trans women, using her global platform to demand dignity, challenge violence, and amplify joy -reminding the world of the importance of living life fully and unapologetically,” the Proclamation continued.

Madison’s partnership with NAESM Inc. to launch the Ts Madison Starter House in Atlanta to support formerly incarcerated Black trans women and queer people was also noted. 

“Ts Madison is not just an icon, but she is a guardian of community, a builder of futures, and a sister to every trans young person dreaming of a world that welcomes them with open arms.

“She reminds them that being seen is sacred, that being heard is healing, and that being free is a right – not a request. Our city is stronger for her truth.”
