In a heartwarming moment during a show, bisexual singer-songwriter Beth McCarthy – whose songs focus on celebrating queerness – honored a transgender fan’s request to give her a new name.

McCarthy posted a video of the sweet scene in which the fan is clearly over the moon that the performer is speaking to her at all, let alone about to help her with something monumental.

McCarthy asks her to hold her hand and then says, “I think the name Luna is really beautiful.” At that, the crowd goes wild and the now-named Luna’s jaw drops with excitement.

“I was gonna save it for me having a kid,” McCarthy says, “but actually I think that you look beautiful and honestly, you shine like the moon. Would you like to be called Luna?”

The fan nods emphatically and shouts, “Yeah! Yes! Thank you so much!” before the pair embraces.

“I think I’m your kid now. You are adopting me.” Luna jokes, and McCarthy agrees as they jump up and down.

“I love you so much,” McCarthy says, adding “We knight you as Luna” as she uses her microphone to “dub” Luna with her new name. To top it all off, McCarthy then dedicates her next song to her.

McCarthy posted the video of the event on social media and wrote, “Thank you luna for trusting me with the incredible honour to choose your new name, i hope it helps you to shine even brighter than you already do. you will forever be in my heart.”
