Gen Z are more open-minded than millennials when it comes to their sexuality, a study by Hinge has shown.
Hinge’s 2025 LGBTQIA+ D.A.T.E (data, advice, trends and expertise) Report casts light on how Gen Z (aged between 18 and 26) are exploring sexuality on their own terms.
According to the report, Gen Z daters were found to be 21 per cent more likely than Millennial daters (aged between 29 to 44) to date people with a variety of gender expressions.
It also noted that Gen Z LGBTQIA+ daters were 22 per cent more likely than Millennial daters in the same community to be open to a sexual encounter with someone outside of their usual gender preference.
This same pool of Gen Z daters were also 39 per cent more likely than their Millennial counterparts to have reconsidered their sexuality level based on an unexpected attraction.
‘True compatibility isn’t about matching labels’
Hinge’s report concludes: “The future of dating is fluid, expansive, and entirely ours to define and redefine.”
Moe Ari Brown (he/they), a licensed therapist and Hinge’s Love & Connection Expert, explains: “Attraction is deeper than looks, presentation, or identity markers. True compatibility isn’t about matching labels — it’s about how you show up for each other.”
Last year, Hinge’s report found that queer daters were embracing “slowmance”, with more people putting emphasis on emotional intimacy and building trust,
The findings in this survey come as no surprise as several studies, including the UK census, which has found that more young people are out as LGBTQ+ than any other generation, with 6.91 per cent of young people in the UK identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual.
In 2023, a study by Business Insider and YouGov found that 5 per cent of Gen Z identified as queer, compared to 1 per cent of Gen X and Millennials.
