Supernanny star Jo Frost has urged parents to raise their children “to believe that everyone is worthy of love, no matter who they love or how they identify” as she marks Pride month.
Frost, who rose to fame as the controversial nanny on the British reality series, has solidified her stance as an LGBTQ+ ally in a Tuesday (3 June) Instagram post. The media personality reflected on a social media post she saw of “a girl crying because her friend told her God doesn’t love her because she is gay”.
“I felt my empathetic heart fracture as I watched her cry,” Frost said, noting that her “so-called ‘friend’ had the audacity to tell her friend who had the monopoly on who God loves”.
She urged parents to “never use love as a condition for respect.” Frost wrote: “Understand this modelling of humanity starts under your roof first, their home.
“Raise your children to believe that everyone is worthy of love no matter who they love or how they identify or what religion they practice,” she continued.
“Respect isn’t something we give only to people we agree with. It’s a basic rule for being a good human. Separating beliefs from behavior and modeling unconditional respect is what your children need to see so that they learn – I can believe what I choose and others may disagree but I still treat others with dignity.”
However, Frost urged that her advice “doesn’t mean we tolerate hatred”, instead the aim is for parents to raise their children as “empathetic and kind human beings… It starts with you, it starts at home”.
Fans rallied around the star for supporting the queer community, with one writing: “Thank you Jo for always showing compassion, empathy, and support to those different than you. You are a true leader and educator. I am so grateful to live in the same timeline as you.”
“Love you Jo, and Happy Pride Month,” wrote another. “Thank you for publicly supporting the gay community,” commented a third.
