Sasha Colby is officially your favourite minister’s favourite minister! The Drag Race winner kicked off Pride month by ordaining surprise gay marriages in Washington D.C.

Drag superstar Colby, alongside Destination DC and Them magazine, hosted the wedding ceremony at the Southern-inspired restaurant Succotash last week. The event also took place during WorldPride, the international Pride event, and marked the ten year anniversary of same-sex marriage in the US, the Supreme Court’s ruling of Obergefell v. Hodges on 26 June 2015.

Wearing a bedazzled mitre (a bishops’ headdress) by drag artist Zenobia, ordained minister Colby officiated a series of three weddings, as per Them. John Dennis Gaynor and Michael Johnston, Amanda Seda and Hannah Nececkas, and Teraj Allen and Barry Hoy were all married by the performer, and enjoyed plenty of wedding festivities including champagne, cake, flowers, and music by your favourite artist’s favourite artist, Chappell Roan

“Got legally ordained to serve priestess realness and kick off Pride in DC last week,” Colby posted on Instagram. “Thank you @them and @visitwashingtondc! What a beautiful way to celebrate queer love and chosen family.”

Hoy, who married Allen on the day, commented: “We are still pinching ourselves!!! You didn’t just officiate—you Sasha Colby’d our wedding into the history books! Thank you for blessing our big gay kickoff with grace, glam, and just the right amount of chaos. We love you forever, Reverend Queen!”

Fans also threw their support around the star, with one writing: “What a blessing to be married by Sasha.”

“If Sasha Colby isn’t ordaining my wedding, I don’t want it,” wrote another, while a third quipped: “New pope just dropped.”

Them editor-in-chief Fran Tirado told the outlet: “When Destination DC asked us to collaborate on an event that celebrated the 10-year anniversary of gay marriage, we wanted to strike a tone that met the unique cultural moment we’re in.

“People right now are looking for reprieve, irreverence, and something to look forward to,” Tirado said. “So I said, ‘Can we get Sasha Colby in a gem-stoned priest hat?’”
